Joy Renjilian-Burgy: For a half century I have taught Spanish language, as well as Latin American Film & Literature, & ESL Methodologies. With teaching prizes from Wellesley College (1) and Harvard University (2), I was thrilled to be named DAMA de la Orden de Isabel la Católica by King Phillip of Spain.

Past Chair of NECTFL, I served as president of several associations- including MaFLA, AATSP, NECLAS (New England Council for Latin American Studies), SCA (Spanish Cultural Association and AIWA (Armenian International Women’s Association). I additionally served on the Boards of ACTFL and the Armenian Museum of America. As an NGO member of ECSOC (Economic and Social Council) at the United Nations, I also served as Vice-President of UNIFEM USA (United Nations Fund for Women). Topics included microcredit for women; ending violence against women/ girls; environmental dangers; and women’s global leadership.

Lead author of Caminos and Reflejos Spanish programs, as well as co-editor of the literary reader, Álbum,  my AIWA team and I have edited 4 narratives by Armenian feminist authors of the 19th & 20th centuries, most living and writing in Turkey. A twin myself, my husband Don Burgy and I have twin boys and look forward to interacting with them and our grandchildren (4 & 2years old) and also having Wellesley students live in our home. After a year of Persistent Pandemic we plan to cook, eat watch sports and TCM classic films together: a blast!
